The nuclear industry in the USA

The nuclear industry occupies a very special place in the United States. Raw materials, industrial enterprises and their products belong to the state, but the operation of most enterprises has been transferred into the hands of monopolies, among which the Dupont de Nemours monopoly plays a prominent role. The nuclear industry is a complex complex of industries, including the extraction and enrichment of uranium ores, the production of fissile materials, and eventually the production of nuclear weapons. The main raw materials are uranium and thorium ores located on the Colorado Plateau. Uranium extraction plants have been built at the mining site. A significant part of the raw materials is imported from Canada, the Republic of South Africa and other African countries. The second stage of the industrial process, the production of fissile materials, is very energy—intensive, and therefore most of the enterprises of this profile are located in large energy hubs on the Columbia (Hanford) and Tennessee Rivers (Oak Ridge, Paducah). The final process, the assembly of atomic bombs, is carried out far from areas of population concentration — in the mountainous states of New Mexico (Los Alamos, Albuquerque and some others) and Colorado (Rocky Flats).

Herbicides and "addiction"

"Habituation" to herbicides means that objects that were previously sensitive to their effects are gradually becoming resistant to their effects. This phenomenon is associated with the appearance of mutants (modified specimens) among plants that are resistant to herbicides. Addiction to agrochemicals has long been a serious problem. Many compounds are eventually withdrawn from use because they lose their effectiveness. In the case of herbicides, habituation is much less important. The only class of substances for which this problem is significant turned out to be triazines. As is commonly believed, the small role of the addictive effect

when using herbicides, it is apparently related to the following factors: the long life cycle of weeds, their low mobility, maternal heredity in the transmission of resistance to triazines, i.e. not transmitted with pollen, the presence of a large number of herbicides with different mechanisms of action, alternating crops that promote the use of various herbicides, etc. It is believed that addiction is most likely in the case of persistent herbicides, which lead to a more significant selection of mutants. Since there are few such compounds, habituation does not seem to be a problem for herbicides in general. But even if this assumption is not justified, it should be borne in mind that there are a large number of compounds that are potential herbicides. 1xbet 프로모션코드
